Rides and Transportation During TasteCamp EAST 2010

We’re less than a month out before TasteCamp EAST 2010 begins on Friday, May 7 with a welcome lunch and tasting at Heron Hill Winery — so it’s time to talk transportation.

As our returning attendees will remember, there won’t be any formalized transportation for the day-time visits. Car pooling is encouraged, but everyone will be responsible for driving themselves between appointments. It worked well last year and we didn’t see any reason to change it.

For Friday and Saturday, we are exploring buses or taxis from the hotel to dinner and back, but don’t have details yet. It won’t be free, but we’ll try to get a good deal.

The main reason for this post is to give people an opportunity (via the comments) to talk about rides to and from the airports. We have a few people flying in, so hopefully we can get that sorted out.

More details coming soon!

  1. Hey Everyone

i am arriving at ROC airport at 12:45 on Thursday and leaving on Monday at 1:00 from ROC. I have rented a compact car so i can give a couple of people a ride to/from the airport and would be happy to provide driving around to the wineries, I don’t mind spitting.

Looking forward to meeting those of you I haven’t met in person yet.
    Cheers!

  2. I will be driving up from Long Island. My wife is pregnant, so she will not be doing to much in the way of drinking. She will be tasting and I plan on spitting, so we will have room in my HHR. You are more then welcome to tag along!

Can’t wait to get to the Finger Lakes and explore. Can’t wait to meet so many other wine enthusiasts!

  3. Hi all – while I will have a car with me, it’s likely that my wife and daughter will be along again but not visiting as many of the tastings due to the fact that my daughter is now an ambulatory toddler who gets bored quickly! :-)

So, I’m hoping that I will be able to hitch a ride with some of the other folks to/from the destinations during the weekend (happy to contribute to the petrol fund, of course, and I’m not talking about Riesling!).

John – I’ll take you up on the offer!

    Thanks!

  4. We will be driving up from Poughkeepsie and will have room for 2 in our car if needed.

If anyone from NYC needs a ride can catch Metro North and be in Poughkeepsie by 7a, you can spend 4 hours in the car getting to know Paul and I.

  5. Once we’re all in town and together, we’ll definitely get all of the during-TasteCamp carpooling organized.

Some of the tasting rooms have pretty small parking lots, so they don’t want 20+ cars rolling up anyway haha.

  6. FYI…..

My wife just informed me that while she will be going she may not be going to all of the tastings, since she will be 30 weeks when TasteCamp happens…

While I told her that, for the most part we all will be spitting, she “is not good at spitting” and does not want to be “tempted” by the good juice we will be tasting.

So if there are other folks not tasting and want to tour the non-wine related parts of the Finger Lakes, keep Melissa in mind and vice versa!

  7. If anyone needs a ride from New York City and environs, I will be driving from Montclair NJ (12 miles east of the city) and leaving by 7 ish on Friday morning. Buses that leave NYC are #33 and #66 or the NJ Transit train to Watchung Ave station.

Also happy to take extra passengers to tastings once there.

  8. I’ll be driving with Tracy from NYC, so we’ve got room for two if anyone needs a ride. Our plan is to leave super early on Friday, so that’s the only caveat. I hate cutting it too close on arrival time. And we definitely won’t leave Sunday until after the last tasting.
